  • Monster.com is very... not so good. Not compared to...
  • Dice.com has been very good for me.
  • There are a lot of people who are ignoring the "Louisville, KY" area in my profile and are trying to get stuff placed in California, New York, New Jersey, and Texas.
  • I have had several people bite at me. Two interviews tomorrow (one contracting outfit, one fulltime), and trying to schedule a phone interview with a manager, and another recruiter wants to chat on the phone.
  • I was asked to take a C# assessment and an ASP.Net assessment. I felt I did horrible on the ASP.Net assessment... the results came in. I shall cut and paste:

Brainbench Results: Date Taken: 27-Sep-2006, Test Event ID: ZC11639-ZVTM6GDD, Overall Score: 4.29, Weights: 100% ASP.NET, Elapsed time: 46 min 33 sec. ASP.NET - Score 4.29. Percentile: Scored higher than 97% of previous examinees. Account Percentile: Scored higher than 97% of 4987 previous examinees within this account. Proficiency Level: Advanced (Master). Demonstrates a clear understanding of many advanced concepts within this topic. Appears capable of mentoring others on most projects in this area. Strong Areas: Web Forms, .NET Framework, Web Applications, Architecture. Weak Areas: None noted.

Brainbench Results: Date Taken: 27-Sep-2006, Test Event ID: ZC11696-ZA5R41CJ, Overall Score: 4.06, Weights: 100% C#, Elapsed time: 58 min 26 sec. C# - Score 4.06. Percentile: Scored higher than 91% of previous examinees. Account Percentile: Scored higher than 97% of 6680 previous examinees within this account. Proficiency Level: Advanced (Master). Demonstrates a clear understanding of many advanced concepts within this topic. Appears capable of mentoring others on most projects in this area. Strong Areas: Grammar, Object-Oriented Programming, Value and Reference Types, Delegates Properties, Indexers, and Fields, Methods. Weak Areas: Developing Data Consumers and Services.

Interesting about the weak area bit -- i would love to know which exact questions, and polish up on that area. There was *one* question which i took a little too long on the google window, and it skipped on me. (You have 3 minutes to answer each question, and can take one 15 minute break, total of 40 very technical questions.)

  • I am so far very impressed by a guy named Chris at tekSystems.com. Something about straightforward, and integrity... that's the feeling I get, anyway. That interview is tomorrow.

So, it looks like, it'll be fairly straightforward to find employment. This gives me some leeway in selecting my employer... What's important to me? My list for right now is:
  • Adequate pay, not to be taken advantage of, can pay bills and save some money.
  • Creative component ... creating something.
  • Enjoyable work with other people. I am not a solo lone wolf guy.
  • What I create is a benefit to somebody (not weapons of war). <-- this is getting a big fuzzy for me.
  • I get to learn something. <-- this is my new one.

Life is good.

Guess I'll try Dice. Monster hasn't helped at all. CareerBulider's not terrible, but no bites yet.

Try SimplyHired.com It's a Meta search that searches all of them.

And Good luck Sunny! And congrats on doing so well on the assessment. I had to do one of those a long while back for testing my Sysadmin skills, and I also nailed about a 95% or so. (Despite the fact that some of the questions were a bit wonky, and really from left field.)
